"Keeping the Lights On" - Managing the electric grid is an inherently spatial exercise. Electric utilities were early adapters of geospatial technology, and now rely on GIS for information about the wires and devices that make up the network. With the advent of the smart grid, however, mainstream GIS data models and update processes may not be able to keep up with massive data volumes and rapid changes. Can "neo-geo" technology help?
